TUNAWAPITISHA watu wetu kwenye njia yenye giza. Kwenye njia yenye matope. Kwanini?
Socrates, mwanafalsafa wa Uyunani alipata kuonekana akimulika kurunzi mchana wa jua kali. Inaandikwa, kuwa Socrates yule alizunguka sokoni na kurunzi yenye kumulika. Watu walimwuliza, kulikoni? Socrates akawajibu; ”Kwenye nuru hii , kuna walio gizani.”
Kwa Socrates lilikuwa ni tendo la kifalsafa lenye kuelezea hali halisi. Hata katika dunia hii ya kisasa, bado tuna miongoni mwetu, walio gizani mchana wa jua kali. Angalia ya kwa ’ Babu’ wa Loliondo. Ndiyo, kuna wanaohitaji kumulikiwa mwanga.
Na kuna tofauti ya ujinga na upumbavu. Marehemu Mzee Jongo alipata kutamka; ” Kusoma si kuufuta ujinga, bali ni kuupunguza”. Kila mwanadamu ana ujinga wa jambo moja au mia moja. Kuwa na ujinga wa jambo si kosa, hata profesa anaweza asijue namna ya kuchochea kuni za kuchomea mhindi mbichi ukachomeka. Kijana wa darasa la saba anaweza kuwa hodari wa jambo hilo kumshinda profesa.
Lakini upumbavu ni ile hali ya mwanadamu kufanya jambo isivyotakiwa huku akiwa na uelewa wa namna ya kufanya inavyotakiwa. Huo ndio upumbavu. Na ndiyo maana binadamu kuitwa mpumbavu ni tusi. Kuitwa mjinga si tusi, kila mmoja ana ujinga wake. Kuwa na ujinga wa jambo fulani ni kutoelewa jambo hilo. Ni nani anayeelewa kila jambo?
Na mwanadamu unafanyaje unapoamka na kukuta dunia unayoishi ardhi yake imeanza kumegeka na kuchotwa na bahari? Kuna niliyemwuliza swali hilo. Naye akanijibu; ” Huo ndio utakuwa mwisho wa dunia!” Aliyenijibu alikuwa amechoka kufikiri. Nilidhani amgetamka, kuwa angeanza kujifunza kuogelea. Maana, kwa kuogelea majini angeweza kukutana na kisiwa, au nchi kavu.
Wanadamu tumejaliwa akili ili tuweze kufikiri. Na kufikiri ndiyo njia mojawapo ya kuiteka kweli. Kufikiri kunahamisha milima na hata kuiweka kando kuruhusu mwanga upite. Inakuwaje basi mwanadamu anapoacha kufikiri? Haya ya kwa ’ Babu’ wa Loliondo ni kielelezo cha Watanzania kuamua kuacha kufikiri. Kuna umma uliojifunika vilemba vya ujinga. Umma uko gizani, unahitaji mwanga.
Yumkini wakatokea Watanzania wenzetu, wakaoteshwa na Mungu juu ya dawa za tiba kwa mwanadamu. Na hapo wakaingiza suala la imani. Lakini, jambo hilo halituzuii wanadamu kuhoji na kudadisi. Ndiyo, kuuliza maswali. Na kwa Serikali, jambo hilo haliizuii kufuata taratibu zake za kawaida ikiwamo kufanyia utafiti jambo hilo na kutoa msimamo wa Kiserikali. Hata kama Watanzania watakuwa na uhuru wa kwenda kwenye tiba za imani, lakini msimamo wa Serikali uwepo. Na kwa wengi utabaki kuwa ndio mwongozo, maana, watakuwa wameufanyia utafiti.
Si tumemsikia yule nabii mwingine wa Tarakea, naye ni kijana wa miaka 28. Ikasemwa, kuwa naye kaoteshwa na Mungu dawa ya kutibu wagonjwa. Mpaka Serikali ilimpomzuia ili ifanye uchunguzi, tayari alikuwa na wagonjwa 100. Ndiyo, Watanzania tu wagonjwa tunaogombewa. Na viongozi wetu pia ni wagonjwa. Si tumewaona wakipanga foleni ya kikombe kwa Babu?
Katika dunia hii Serikali hupendwa na watu, lakini, si vema na busara, kwa serikali za dunia kutaka kujipendekeza kwa watu. Kuna mambo yenye kupendwa na watu, na watu wakawa na haraka ya kutaka kuyafanya. Lakini, kama serikali itahitaji kufuata taratibu ili kinachopendwa na watu kifanyike, basi, serikali haina namna nyingine, bali kufuata taratibu.
Si tuliona yale ya DECI. Waziri Mkuu Mizengo Pinda alisimamia taratibu, akasimamisha wimbi lile la DECI. Kuna wengi walishutumu, lakini , hao hao, leo wanaishukuru Serikali. Maana, DECI nayo ilikuwa ni Abrakadabra.
Na si juzi hapa tumemsikia Paroko wa Kigango cha Mt. Yohane wa Msalaba Parokoia ya Mbezi Luis Padri Vivian. Niweke wazi, Paroko yule amesema kile ambacho kuna wengi hawataki kukisikia. Ameusema ukweli wake. Ameifanya kwa dhati, kazi ya utumishi wa Mungu wake.
Paroko yule wa Mbezi Luis alitamka; "Sina chuki wala tatizo lolote na tiba ya Loliondo, lakini kama unataka kwenda lazima ujiulize maswali manne yafuatayo;
Kwanza, tiba inayotokana na miujiza ya Mungu lazima iwe endelevu isiwepo kwa kipindi kifupi tu.
Pili, watu wajiulize kama miujiza kutoka kwa Mungu huwa na masharti?
Tatu, wajiulize kama tiba hiyo inafanya kazi ndani ya Loliondo, kwanini isifanye kazi Dar es Salaam na kwingineko?
Nne, wajiulize kuhusu tiba hiyo ya magonjwa sugu ukiwemo ukimwi ni je, Mungu aliwaumba wanadamu na kisha kuamua kuwaangamiza? Au wanadamu wanaangamia kutokana na vitendo vyao vya ujanja ujanja?
Mwisho Paroko yule akasema; "Ukiishajiuliza maswali hayo na kujiridhisha kwa majibu utakayopata, basi, unaweza kufanya maamuzi ya kwenda Loliondo.
Ndiyo, tujiulize; katika mataizo yetu haya, tumechoka kufikiri? Tumechoka kuuliza maswali? Hapana. Tusichoke kuutafuta ukweli, hata kama umegubikwa na ukungu. Hivi ni Watanzania wangapi wamesikia au kusoma maelezo ya Mganga Mkuu wa Hospitali ya Mkoa wa Arusha, Mount Meru Dk. Toure?
Nahofia si wengi, maana, maelezo yake yaliyopaswa kuwa habari kubwa ya ukurasa wa mbele yalipewa nafasi ndogo sana kwenye moja ya magazeti ya kila siku. Tena yaliwekwa katika ukurasa wa pili ndani ya habari nyingine. Si tunafahamu, kuwa baadhi ya wanahabari nao wanachagiza ’ Abrakadabra’ za ’ Babu’ wa Loliondo. Zinauza magazeti, na msimu ndio huu!
Mganga Mkuu wa Mkoa wa Hospitali ya Mount Meru alisema, kuwa tangu tiba ya ’ Babu’ ianze, hajapata hata mgonjwa mmoja wa ukimwi aliyepata kikombe cha ’ Babu’ na kurudi hospitalini hapo kupimwa tena. Hivyo, mpaka hii leo hatuna ushuhuda wa kimaabara kwa maana ya hospitalini. Ushuhuda tunaousikia ni wa mitaani.
Ndiyo maana tiba ya ’ Babu’ itabaki kuwa ’ Abrakadabra’ mpaka hapo itakapothibitishwa vinginevyo kimaabara hospitalini na si kwenye vijiwe vya barabarani.
Halafu tunaambiwa, kuwa tiba ya ’ Babu’ inatibu kansa pia. Hivi Kliniki ya Kansa ya pale Ocean Road mpaka hii leo imeshindwa kuwapeleka kwa ’ Babu’ wagonjwa watano tu walio kwenye matibabu ya kansa. Waende huko wakapate kikombe halafu wachukuliwe vipimo tena tuone nguvu ya tiba ya ’ Babu’ katika kuwasaidia wagonjwa wa kansa.
Ndugu zangu, Mfalme Suleiman alimwambia Mola wake; ” Watu wangu wanaangamia kwa kukosa hekima”. NdiYo, Mfalme Suleiman alipoambiwa na Mola kitu cha kuchagua, basi, alichagua hekima ili aweze kuwaongoza watu wake.
Angalia leo, walio wagonjwa na kwenye hali ngumu za kiuchumi wanazidi kuwa wagonjwa na hali zao za kiuchumi zinazidi kuwa duni. Ndiyo, kuna wanaofunga safari zenye gharama kubwa kwenda Loliondo. Wanakwangua akiba zao. Kuna hata wanaokopa fedha ili waende Loliondo.
Ndiyo, wanakwenda kupata tiba isiyo na hakika katika wakati huu tunaozungumza. Kuna wagonjwa walioacha kutumia dawa zao. Wamerudi na kuanza upya. Kuna waliopoteza maisha. Inasikitisha sana. Ni nani wa kuwasaidia kuwamulikia mwanga? Naam. Kwenye nuru hii kuna walio gizani. Tuwasaidie.

I read with lot of interest Mr. Maggid Mujengwa’s article entitled “Ya Loliondo Na Umma Ulio gizani”, a philosophical description of a confused society. Mr. Mujengwa depicted Tanzania as a nation that is using a flashlight in a broad day light with a notion that, perhaps, it could aid her see better. Figuratively or philosophically speaking, Socrates the philosopher used this metaphor to describe a hopeless and a confused society. One question Mr. Mujengwa failed to address was the root cause of this confusion. How could Tanzanians be convinced that, flashlight is brighter than the sun? Is it because of ignorance, confusion or desperation?
Plato, one of the greatest philosophers to have ever lived, strongly advocated in favor of an examined life; An examination of one's life addresses fundamental questions such as: who am I, what do I want to do with my life, how will I know whether I have achieved my goals, what matters to me; wisdom; a feeling of accomplishment; wealth, power; social change or pleasure and how will I balance them. If you haven't asked yourself these questions, then life becomes meaningless. You become more like a boat in turbulent high seas without compass direction, going along with the tides and currents of the ocean. A boat that is destined for a clear tragic end of capsizing, Tanzania that is.
Tanzanians are not in control of their lives. Instead, they are controlled by the events of the day, and ignorantly perceiving flashlight to be more powerful than the sun, based on Socrates account on ignorance. As a nation, Tanzania has not asked itself these basic questions, because social-economic, hopelessness and despair amongst her people speak for itself. A sea of humanity flooding Loliondo, is a confirmation of the broken system. Her sick hopping from their hospital beds, carried in stretchers, just to have a sip of the wonder concoction is very troubling. This signifies the dying or non-existing healthcare system in Tanzania. Tanzania does not know where it is headed; it is a lost vessel sailing in the turbulent high seas without a direction, and only waiting to capsize
I must slightly differ with Mr. Mujengwa, based on my strong conviction, that, Babu Mwasapile’s patients are not uninformed, but rather hopeless, desperate, CONFUSED and poverty burdened men and women from all walks of life. Loliondo list of visitors is made up of the mighty and the powerful, the rich, the poor, scientists and herdsmen; famous and the little known peasants. Babu has received people who have made their way by selling their few worldly possessions, as well as the flamboyant tycoons arriving in style; in their private aircrafts, all with one goal; drinking the magical mixture, with hope ridding themselves of their excruciating illnesses. This is a national embarrassment, and depiction of Tanzania as a primitive and backward country in the eyes of the world
We are not talking about dumb, stupid, or simple-minded people; we are talking of brilliant and well educated individuals serving in the government, International, private and public agencies. We are talking of people who have been humbled by illnesses, and like anybody else, must heed the need to find treatment by standing in a long queue in the middle of nowhere; away from their posh homes, and comfort of their beds to find cure from the miraculous drink. We are talking of a hopeless and a desperate society on edge.
Desperation has no class, it has no social status or identity, it has no color or creed. It affects PhD holders and the illiterate alike. We must remember that, desperate and hopeless men do not value life; they have no shame or fear. Tell a man, who has exhausted all options to get rid of cancer, that his urine is the only cure to his excruciating illness. Even a King who desperately wants to live will heed the advice. These are the people flanking Babu of Loliondo’s compound trying to get rid themselves of terminal illnesses, endless pain, and misery.
Babu of Loliondo could not have emerged at a perfect time for the hopeless, when divine intervention is direly needed to save their souls. Babu has exposed our desperation, vulnerability and weakness as a society. He has exposed how useless education can be in the face of human despair. He has exposed how far we are lost in the turbulent high seas, and only going with the tide and flow. We are lost. Just like DECI which was a product of greed, ignorance and despair, Babu Liliondo’s purported magic cup is nothing but a tragic health and social a time bomb yet to explode!
